Description
We are holding our first annual Burlingame Evening of Remembrance. This is the one time during the year when we gather together as a community, and it reinforces a fundamental truth that everyone who has lived long enough to love will experience loss and that there is some comfort in bearing witness to others also grieving for those whom they have lost. In other words, we do not grieve alone, and while that doesn’t make the loss go away, it supports and sustains us and gives us strength to carry on and to do good work in our community and the world. The belief that a community sustains a mourner is at the core of our healing. When we lose someone we love, it levels us, and the only thing that keeps us going is exactly what we say to mourners: may you be comforted among mourners; in other words, you do not lose alone. Every time we relate to the sorrows of others, we hold each other up.
No one is strong enough to sustain such grief alone, and that is why our community is so important.
Together, we grieve, but we do not only grieve; we also love and direct our love to those who are gone and those who are still here.
Together, we remember those we’ve lost and hope their inspiration will enrich our lives, elevate our souls, soften our hearts, and draw us closer to ourselves and those we love.
Light refreshments, live music, reflection, and remembrance.
